Sun Moon Lake: In ancient times, the area surrounding SunMoonLake was known as “Shuishalian”, meaning “Where water and sand meet". The area covered nearly half of what is today NantouCounty, including the towns of Zhushan, Lugu, Mingjian, Shuili, Jiji, Puli, Yuchi, Renai, and Guoxing.
Sun Moon Lake stands at an elevation of 748 meters. With a depth of 27 meters, a circumference of 37 kilometers and a total size of 5.4 square kilometers, it is Taiwan’s biggest lake. The unique geographical location of the Lake - surrounded by mountains and water, has created an abundant ecological system for this area.
The lake area has many noteworthy places of interest, such as the Hsuan Chuang temple, Wen-Wu temple, Tse-En Pagoda and so on. Enjoy one of the loveliest regions in Taiwan. |
